Animal Control

The Carbondale Police Department is in charge of Animal Control. If you have a problem please call 785-836-7377.

Dog tags are due on or before April  1st , of each year.
Required Fees:

  • Spayed or  Neutered                   $5.00
  • Not Spayed or Neutered            $10.00

Owners must show proof of rabies shots each year before obtaining a dog tag. The city office does not retain proof of vaccinations.

If dogs are picked up by the police department,  a ticket will be issued to appear in court for :

  • Dog at Large – fine of $10.00 plus court cost
  • No City Dog tags – fine of $10.00 and  court cost, plus the following fees:

$40 pound fee
$25 collection fee.

Carbondale City Shelter

The Carbondale Pet Clinic is open for reclaiming and adopting out dogs from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Unclaimed animals can be adopted three days after being picked up.

If your dog is picked up by the Police Department or you would like to adopt one, please call the Pet Clinic at 785-836-7212 during normal business hours.
