FULL-TIME PUBLIC WORKS II
The Public Works II position is supervised by and answers to the Public Works Supervisor.
Public Works II employees shall perform tasks and duties as delegated from the Public Works Supervisor and may be asked to perform the duties of the Public Works Supervisor during an absence or vacancy in the supervisory position.
Public Works II employees are responsible for maintaining the production and delivery of safe, potable water and following all applicable State and EPA guidelines as directed by the Public Works Supervisor.
Public Works II employees are responsible for the maintenance of City streets, snow removal, cleaning of ditches and culverts, installation and maintenance of street and traffic signs, and maintenance of all City equipment and department vehicles.
Public Works II employees must be certified by the State of Kansas as a “Class 2” water operator and “Class 1” wastewater operator.
Certifications must be obtained within a reasonable length of time after the first year of service. All certifications shall be paid for by the City and a record maintained in the employee’s personnel file.
Attend City Council regular meetings, attend special meetings as requested by the Governing Body in the event the Supervisor is unavailable.
Perform minor tune-ups and adjustments of internal combustion engines
Perform minor tune-ups and adjustments of internal combustion engines. Perform required preventative maintenance and servicing of equipment and department vehicles. Troubleshoot components of equipment and vehicles and replace defective components. Report to Public Works Supervisor status of tasks and if additional work is required.
The maintaining, observing and regular monitoring of the city water plant; as well as
Perform scheduled call-back shifts to maintain the water treatment plant.
Perform un-scheduled call-back shifts for emergencies related to the
water treatment plant or water emergencies related to the city water system.
The Public Works Department is expected to perform their duties in:
Buildings both heated and unheated, outside in conditions of hot or cold, and in inclement weather. At times work will be performed in high places, low places, below ground or restricted places. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, climbing, and stooping, as well as working in a sitting position for extended periods is required. Occasionally it is required to handle items weighing more than forty (40) pounds.
FULL-TIME PATROL OFFICER & PART-TIME PATROL OFFICER
Certification is preferred but not mandatory.

PART-TIME CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
The Code Enforcement Officer, under the supervision of the Chief of Police, with the assistance of the Municipal Court Clerk, shall be responsible for community beautification and the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare through the consistent and proactive enforcement of City code related to tall grass and weed nuisances, inoperable vehicles, and other nuisances (trash/junk/rubbish) located on private property in the City.
Position Duties
Proactively Patrol the community and enforce adopted nuisance abatement codes.
Investigate violations pertaining to tall grass and weeds on private property and coordinate abatement with the property owner or designated abatement contractor or public works staff.
Investigate violations pertaining to inoperable vehicles and coordinate abatement of violating issues with the property owner.
Investigate violations pertaining to nuisances on private property including, but not limited to, trash, junk, rubbish, etc.; and coordinate abatement with the tenant and/or property owner or designated abatement contractor or public works staff.
Remove signs that are illegally placed within the public right-of-way.
Conduct field inspections in response to violation complaints issued and communicate with complainants and property owners as needed.
Issue notices of violation of nuisance codes and provide information in the time frame allowed for achieving compliance.
Follow up on violations to ensure they are corrected through voluntary compliance, abatement, or judicial action.
Answer questions and provide information to citizens pertaining to municipal code violations.
Provide case file information, logs, and other records related to inspection and enforcement activities, and ensure that appropriate evidence, such as field notes, photographs, and any statements are included, to the Municipal Court Clerk.
Appear to Municipal Court on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 4:00pm, when requested by the City Attorney and/or Municipal Court Clerk.
