Fire Department

 

Osage County Fire District #1 provides fire and first responder medical services to an area covering approximately 100 square miles. This area includes the City of Carbondale and the townships of Ridgeway, Scranton and Fairfax. Osage County Fire District #1 responds from their station that is located at 132 Main St. The department responds with two class A pumpers, a 2000 gallon tanker, 1500 gallon tanker, four brush trucks, a med unit and a light rescue truck. Some of the types of emergencies the department responds to are structure fires, car fires, wild land fires, hazardous material incidents, carbon monoxide alarms, vehicle accidents, and emergency medical calls. On average the department responds to approximately 350 calls per year.The department has meetings the first and third Thursday of each month. Each member is requested to certify in CPR and attend training sessions throughout the year. The department also offers first aid and CPR training to members/groups of their community. Some of the additional items that are encouraged for their members to be trained for are First Aid, Hazmat Awareness, Infectious Control, Fire Fighter I, Fire Fighter II and other topics. The Department encourages each member to be cross trained in both fire and emergency patient care.The department also provides many volunteer benefits. These benefits include but are not limited to the following:

Outside training fees paid / 24 hour life insurance / Retirement annuity after 20 years service / pay per call
