In 2015, the Kansas Legislature changed local elections for cities, school boards and other municipalities from the spring to the fall to coincide with the general election calendar. This year’s election cycle is the first to be impacted by the changes. The filing deadline for local office candidates is now June 1 at Noon at your local county election offi ce. This is a significant change both in the filing date and location. All candidates for municipal office are required to file with the county election officer not at city hall, as previously allowed. The fee for filing is $20 or a nomination petition with the proper number of signatures (to determine the number of signatures needed, check with the city clerk).
