City of Carbondale Issues Boil Water Advisory Following Major Water Line Break
Carbondale, Kansas — The City of Carbondale has issued a Boil Water Advisory (BWA) per guidance from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) due to a significant water line break near 75 Highway that has caused dangerously low water levels in the city’s water tower.
City crews are working alongside local fire departments, KDOT, and local law enforcement to address the situation. The City is using fire hydrant systems and hoses to transport water into Carbondale to make water available for residents to boil and use safely.
To safely move water into the city, KDOT and local law enforcement are coordinating the closure of the on and off ramps at the 75 Highway access point. Drivers are urged to avoid this area and use alternate routes to allow emergency crews to work safely and efficiently.
All residents must boil water before consuming it:
-
Bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one (1) full minute before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.
-
Allow the water to cool before using or storing it in clean containers.
-
Use boiled or bottled water for all consumption needs.
-
Dispose of ice cubes made with unboiled tap water.

Residents are also asked to continue conserving water and use only what is absolutely necessary until full service is restored.
Help spread the word:
The City asks all residents to check on friends, family, and neighbors — especially those who may not have access to the internet, social media, or mobile alerts — to ensure they know about the Boil Water Advisory and how to keep their water safe.
City officials understand how disruptive this is and appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation. Crews are working around the clock with local partners to restore safe and reliable water service as quickly as possible.
