The City of Carbondale, KS is hiring for a City Treasurer and Maintenance 2 Position.

The City of Carbondale has openings for a City Treasurer and for a public works employee. Below are the job descriptions. 

City Treasurer Position:

Job Description:

  1. Make bank deposits as necessary
  2.  Collect money from bulk water, keep records and make bank deposit
  3.  Reconcile bank statement(s)

Utilities (water/sewer/trash):    

  • Set up new accounts; receive connection fees
  • Prepare utility billing, mail out billing, & receive payment for utility bills
  • Prepare & mail late notices
  • Track past-due accounts and shut-off when necessary, according to City ordinance
  • Prepare & file utility reports
  • Prepare & track work orders
  • Review utility costs & rates yearly; prepare reports for council
  • Prepare & distribute all public notices as required by EPA & KDHE

On a daily basis take care of walk-ins, phone calls, complaints, zoning permits, look up ordinances, record research, sort mail, filing, dog tags, issue work orders for maintenance personnel, log and track these orders to insure they are completed, burn permits, schedule rental of the hall and customer relations. Customer Relations is a huge part of this position. 

When necessary, assist City Clerk with daily activities.

Starting pay $16.30 hourly. Health and life insurance provided with a percentage paid by the City, vacation and sick leave and holiday pay included, KPERS eligible.

Maintenance 2 Position.

The duties include but are not limited to overall operations of the Public Works Department including:

  • Assist the Supervisor and other Maintenance Department employees in the performance of their duties, perform the duties of Maintenance Supervisor during an absence or vacancy of the position.
  • Maintenance of the city streets, ditches & culverts, snow removal, and install & maintain street and traffic signs and maintenance of City owned equipment.
  • Certification by the State of Kansas as a “Class 2” water operator and “Class 1” Wastewater operator, preferred. Certifications must be obtained within a reasonable length of time after the first year of service. The water treatment plant is the number one priority.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Mayor and/or City Council.
  • Once trained, there is rotating weekend duty for water plant.

Starting Salary is $16.84 per hour.
